Howie MSA. I’ve been running Office Home and Business on myold laptop. When I tried to activate it on my new laptop, the message said I had activated the product the maximum number of times. Do I have to uninstall Office on my old machine first? What else, if anything, do I need to do? This thread is locked. I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Rohn MVP. It depends entirely on the type of license you have. If you bought it factory installed , OEM, you can’t transfer it.

If you bought a “1-computer” online download, you can’t transfer it. If Office was only installed on that old laptop, the message you are getting does reflect one of the above license types. If you had installed Office on 2 machines using that product key, or you have the big ugly yellow plastic box and CD, then you have a retail license, that does allow transfers.

In that case you will have to do a phone activation. When you phone in, don’t answer the initial prompts, they will give the same error.

Had a trial version of Office Professional Plus installed but never activated. Uninstalled it using the Windows uninstal wizard, but windows suggests uninstal is incomplete.

Ran Fix It and CCleaner to finish uninstal. Installed and activated Office University Australia without issue, however when I open any program in the office suite I get the activation wizard stating the original Office Professional Plus is not activated.
